The Pacific Plan Review Team visited Tuvalu from 31 January to 5 February and consulted with politicians, government officials and non-state actors including NGOs, private sector operators and faith-based organisations.
Eminent Person and Chair of the Pacific Plan Review 2013, Sir Mekere Morauta, KCMG, emphasised the importance of consulting widely during this evidence-gathering phase of the Review, including with opposition groups and non-state actors.
“My team will endeavour to consult as widely as possible to obtain a full and balanced perspective on the social, economic and political issues shaping regional cooperation and integration,” he said.
“Our experience to date is that these diverse stakeholders in the region’s development have much to say, and much to contribute. The picture that is emerging is one of diversity of needs for regional cooperation and integration, and significant disparity in citizens’ access to its benefits – something the review will consider in depth.”
